Job Highlights

This position is for an experienced Thermal Performance Engineer assigned to the Corporate M&D Center with the purpose of integrating on-line monitoring and data analytics to improve fleet Thermal Performance. The experienced candidate will use software tools coupled with in-depth experience to identify specific thermal recoverable losses with the objective to optimize Thermal Performance efficiency throughout the fleet.

Job Summary

The Fleet Thermal Performance and Data Analytics Engineer is responsible for sustaining thermal performance excellence by exhibiting an intrusive mindset to optimize thermal performance through detection and elimination of heat rate loss sources. Daily activities include developing and utilizing software algorithms and interacting with site personnel to pinpoint sources of thermal energy losses such as fouling, tube leaks, air in-leakage and pump degradation. Typical Engineering duties include model development and updating, trending, detection, report generation, troubleshooting assistance, improvement strategies and equipment reliability advocacy.

The individual is expected to possess experience or in-depth knowledge of Condensers, Heat Exchangers, Drain Tanks, Steam Generators, Turbine Steam System, Cycle Isolation Valves and Cooling Towers.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE License required. Advanced degree in Business or Engineering a plus.

  • Mechanical discipline preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in PEPSE energy balance software, Steam Tables, Thermodynamics

  • An ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions based on experience and appropriate industry practices.

  • Previous site experience in Systems, Programs, or Component engineering preferred.

  • Previous experience in Nuclear Operations is a plus.

  • Working knowledge in Nuclear Plant Systems, structures and components preferred.

  • Familiarity with Heat Exchanger Institute and other various Industry Standards

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.

  • Familiarity with data historians/archiving, trending and analytical software tools.

  • Nuclear power experience is preferred

  • Four (4) or more years of specific experience in a Thermal Performance engineering role is preferred

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.

  • Selected candidate must live within one hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability.
