Project Management Office Engineer/Analyst

This position will be located in Atlanta, GA


The Project Manager Office (PMO) Engineer/Analyst position will assist project managers and leaders through project delivery within the Transmission Technical and Project Solutions Organization. The individual will organize, evaluate, plan and implement process improvements in business processes and practices. Other aspects of the job are team building, group facilitation, compiling and tracking data, project performance support, and preparing training material. This position reports to the Transmission Technical and Project Solutions PMO Supervisor, and will be located in Atlanta, GA.


  • Develop and sustain continuous improvement to the project delivery process through feedback and evaluation

  • Develop, implement, and/or support Project Performance

  • Evaluate existing business processes and perform workflow analysis to provide Southern Company Services (SCS) Transmission Technical and Project Solutions resources with recommendations for increasing efficiency and improving quality in the engineering processes for substation and transmission line facilities

  • Identify process changes, systems, and innovative methods for delivering efficiencies and reducing costs associated with transmission capital projects

  • Develop an understanding of the SCS Transmission Technical and Project Solutions organization’s objectives, engineering processes, and desired outcomes

  • Document procedures and present new process designs to stakeholders

  • Utilize process mapping and workflow diagrams to bring forth a clearer understanding of a process or series of parallel processes

  • Work with project management, engineering teams, application support, and key stakeholders to gather and analyze information for making recommendations for improvement

  • Champion a process improvement culture by modeling new tools and analysis methods

  • Align organizational process strategy with the needs of the customer

  • Work extensively with customers to align on priorities, define improvement opportunities and drive change

  • Work closely with subject matter experts to ensure all enhancement activities are sustainable and achieved efficiently


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Degree in a technical or business field such as engineering, construction, or business is required.

  • MBA Or Master's Degree is a plus

  • Six Sigma, CAPM, or PMP Certification is a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be a forward thinker capable of proactively identifying potential challenges and opportunities resulting in business strategies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Business analysis or process improvement experience

  • Working knowledge of process management software such as Visio, Smartsheet, Minitab, P6, Power BI, and MS Project

  • Experience in establishing, communicating, reporting and/or interpreting performance metric data

  • Excellent verbal, written, and team building skills - Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple customers simultaneously while maintaining/building good relationships

  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills

  • Expert in selecting techniques and evaluating criteria for obtaining results

  • Demonstrated business acumen, and success working with all levels of an organization


  • This position can require some travel – approximately 25% per year

  • This will include some overnight travel and will be primarily within the Southern Company Generation fleet
