JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing process engineering support for the development and demonstration of cost-effective CO2 capture technologies required for successful integration into commercial coal-fired and natural gas-fired power plants. Other supported technology demonstrations include direct air capture (DAC), CO2 utilization, and energy storage systems that may play a role in the carbon reduction nexus.
Responsibilities include:
Provide process engineering support for testing, commissioning, operating, and maintaining process systems during test runs and outages while maintaining safety as the highest priority. Troubleshoot new system components and processes.
Develop process packages for assigned projects including written project scope, process flow diagrams, process and control narratives and identification of sampling or analytical needs.
Support development of test plans and detailed test matrices. Write operating procedures and train operations personnel.
Work with Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, Design, Controls and E&I groups to conduct testing. This includes project and test specific items on a technical level that includes, but is not limited to, run guidelines, capture media technical and environmental considerations, process configurations, best practices, data monitoring, and troubleshooting philosophies.
Conduct data analysis to evaluate plant operations and system performance. Identify, propose, and design modifications to improve system operability, efficiency, and reliability.
Write technical reports and present test results to internal and external parties.
Provide timely review of engineered/controlled documents in a project review cycle and update project database accordingly.
Support on site visits of personnel from academia, industry, and government by providing site review presentations, technical updates, and tour guide facilitation as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required
Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree strongly preferred
Advanced degree(s), certifications, licenses, and/or training in a relevant technical field/discipline would be a plus
Experience:
More than one (1) year of process plant experience including startup and troubleshooting experience is required
Experience with control system troubleshooting is desired
Experience with gas/liquid contacting systems is desired
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of fossil fueled-combustion systems, gas/liquid contacting systems, and/or pollutant emission control is desired.
Candidate should have a strong analytical ability, easily grasp advanced technical concepts and ideas, and be able to conduct problem solving and troubleshooting
Strong oral and written communication skills are required
Must be proficient in MS Office applications and possess excellent computer skills for data analysis and documentation described under position duties
Experience using Visual Basic and PI data trending applications is desired
Other Requirements:
Limited off-site travel required, up to 25%
After hours on-call support on nights and weekends will be required for plant operational activities
