Maintenance Engineer - Plant Vogtle Units 1&2 (Waynesboro, GA)

Summary

Maintenance Engineers implement various maintenance programs; identify and solve problems through investigation, evaluation, and resolution; evaluate and implement industry operating experience; and provide general engineering and technical support to maintenance teams as needed. Maintenance Engineers provide support by monitoring equipment and resolving day-to-day problems.

Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site.

Their responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

•Providing technical oversight for major equipment refurbishments.

•Coordinating with equipment vendors for proper product supply or services.

•Assisting with the development, implementation, and improvement of Preventative Maintenance (PM) Technical Bases.

•Ensuring cost benefit analysis balanced against PM effectiveness.

•Developing vendor specifications for equipment overhauls and monitoring the quality of onsite services.

•Act as a project manager and/or Temp Maintenance Supervisor during refueling and equipment outages.

•Resolving engineering problems encountered by Craft during around-the-clock work activities.

•Coordinating with Systems Engineering and off-site Engineering to resolve equipment problems that are the result of design issues.

•Solving equipment problems through evaluations and modifications.

•Coordinating activities related to corrective maintenance, refurbishments, preventive maintenance, and work planning.

•Administering and coordinating the Lifting and Rigging Program.

•Administering the Valve Packing Program, Welding Program and ASME Repair/Replacement Programs.

•Coordinating Work Order Feedback.

•Evaluating unavailable equipment for impacts on plant design and safety.

•Coordinating and providing field support for Motor Operated Valve testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•A BS degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program, or a PE license, is required.

•An ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions, based on experience and appropriate industry practices, to make timely decisions which might impact plant safety and reliability.

•Excellent oral and written communication skills

Background/Experience:

•3 years of power plant experience required

•Power Plant equipment troubleshooting experience required

•Welding and/or ASME Section XI Repair/Replacement experience is highly desired.

•Lifting and Rigging experience and/or training is preferred.

•Valve Maintenance experience is preferred

•Industrial equipment lubrication experience is preferred.

•Ability to gain unescorted access to Southern Nuclear Operating Company plants is required.
